: Well this wiki isn't really intended as a webhost for the displaying of characters. It was decided we would allow Societies to create a page about themselves and place it in a different namespace. No such decision has been made about characters. We don't want people creating accounts here solely to list their characters. We do allow normal editors to list their characters on their userpage but I don't think we wanna actually encourage it by creating a template for it. At least thats how I always understood it, maybe Mopster can comment because the [[policy]] isn't 100% clear about this? --[[User:Lord Alderaan|Lord Alderaan]] 18:45, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Will there be a template for missions? I'd make one but you really don't want that.

  • Go ahead. If there's a need for such template go for it! This wiki is for all of us! ;) --AdTheRat 15:41, 23 July 2007 (CEST)

Deletion templates

Thanks to the newly installed parser functions, I was able to create a new template {{delete}} that combines the capabilities of both {{Deletion}} and {{Deletion Because}}. Those two should probably be deprecated (not used any more), but I'm not going to delete them until people get used to using the new template. Zuerst 22:16, 23 July 2007 (CEST)

Go for it personally. There aren't that many people on yet and the ones I've made hasn't been used yet so --AdTheRat 01:22, 24 July 2007 (CEST)

Template for Refits, Uncertified Deeds and Writs

ADVANCED SHIP ITEM
Type {{{type}}}
Obtained From {{{obtained from}}}
Combined With {{{combined with}}}
Produces {{{produces}}}

The way we are currently handling these three items is bothering me. Writs and uncertified deeds just point to the ship page while refits point to a refit item page that uses the commodity template, something that doesn't really fit. I'd like to make a new template to allow for each of these items to have it's own page that provides logical links to the other items. I've put my proposed template to the right. It could really use a better name (I'm awful at those).

Usage would be:
Type: Refit/Uncertified Deed/Writ
Obtained From: For uncertified deeds and the poleacre refit, this points to the recipe, for writs and all other refits it lists the required MoV/MCfE/CoC/Pennants, with links to the relevant pages
Combined With: For Writs and Uncertified Deeds this points to the relevant Writ or Uncertified Deed, for Refits it points to the recipe to make the required deed
Produces: This points to the page for the ship.

What do people think of this? Cmdr Adeon 18:58, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

I'd name it "Infobox Writ". ;-) But anyway, it seems these items could use their own template. Do you know how to set it all up or do you want me to make the template for you? --Mopster 19:30, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
I'll give the setup a go, it'll give me the chance to learn how. I'm not sure about calling it Infobox Writ since I'm intending to use it for refits as well Cmdr Adeon 19:33, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Well I'd still call it Writ. ;-) You can't call it Deed because deeds already use the recipe template. --Mopster 19:38, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Well, I've created it. I've updated Refit: Privateer 'Hermes' Packet-Boat to use the new template and I'll try and work my way through the rest over the next few days Cmdr Adeon 19:55, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Instead of linking Mark of Victory I would link the turnin mission. --Mopster 19:59, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
I can do that (assuming someone can let me know all the required mission names, I'm not high enough level to see most of them (and a freetrader to boot)), but from a usability point of view I feel that linking to Mark of Victory is more useful Cmdr Adeon 20:19, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Technically it would be proper to link to the missions. But for now linking to the Mark of Victory page is fine I guess. It won't confuse people or something. We can always link to the missions when they are added. --Lord Alderaan 23:19, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
That makes sense, I'll link to the MoV page and we can change it as and when people input the mission details. [soapbox]To be honest though, this is an illustration of something that has always bugged me about Wikis in general (and Wikipedia in particular), there seems a strong culture of doing what is technically correct rather than what makes sense. The way I see it if a user is looking at the information on a refit he is much more likely to be interested in general information on MoVs than he is in the specific details of the mission that gives the refit, especially since the mission page shouldn't contain any useful information that isn't also on the MoV page.[/soapbox] Sorry about the rant. Character Template

I've created two Societies now! - Is there a nifty C&P type Template for User Profiles?

Template:Society

User:Ailar/Beta_Characters {Me think it needs some formating help, but it's a start}
