History
Santa Clara is a small village in the municipality of Tizimin, Yucatan State, Mexico. The word Tizimin means tapir in the Maya language. With the Spanish conquest of Yucatán, Tizimín was established as a Spanish colonial town in 1544. Santa Clara is several kilometers east of Tizimin and is known as a fishing village. It is not far from Isla Pajaros (Bird Island) where guano can be harvested.
Alternate History
Santa Clara is a palenque or a settlement established by runaway slaves and the natives who took them in and intermarried with them. The inhabitants of Santa Clara were termed palenqueros who speak various Spanish-African-based creole languages as well as Mayan. While some might refer to the people of Santa Clara as Zambos the Spanish who had to fight them referred to them as Lobos meaning "wolves." It is no wonder that pirates, buccaneers and cutthroats of all sorts find home in Santa Clara.
RvR Notes
The Pirate Nation ports of La Isabela and Santa Clara are vital for ship production. Santa Clara is the only Pirate port with oak. Its limestone supports La Isabela's iron production.
