The Open Sea is the area connecting the cities and islands together. It takes place in a relatively small rendition of the Atlantic ocean, and includes Islands, [[current]]s, [[port]]s and coastlines roughly scaled to fit. Anyone can sail the Open Sea, [[NPC]]s and [[player]]s alike, from any [[nation]]. Since the sea opens your opportunity to trade and produce on a much larger-scale, the Open Sea is vital to any players success. However, the seas can be very rough, any player may attack or be attacked by any NPC. Also, if a nation kills enough NPCs near an opposing port, the port may fall into contention, this is called a [[Port Battle]]. When a port is being contended, any Pirate may attack any Nationalist. This eventually graduates into an full-[[PVP]]-zone where anyone can attack any other player or NPC. Once a nation scores enough contention points against the defending nation, the two nations will compete for control over the city.
