The French are one of the four national powers vying for control of the Caribbean in Pirates of the Burning Sea. Their starting city is Charlesfort, on the eastern coast of Florida.
History
Unlike Great Britain and Spain the main interest of the French Kingdom in the 17th century lie in the power plays of the European mainland. However with the founding of Saint-Domingue (San Marcos, Leogane, Irish Point, Jaqueme, Port-de-Paix), Guadalope (Pointe-à-Pitre), Martinique (Fort-de-France) and other colonies France managed to carve its own niche in the Caribbean.
With the expansion into Louisiana and Florida at the turn of the century France created a foothold large enough to still become a major player in the inevitable clash of powers. With the tension growing France is finally turning its eyes and thus its considerable resources towards the Caribbean.
