Commendations, Captured Pennons and Standards represent the reward for capturing an enemy ship as a prize of war.

Players receive such commendations when they use special skills (Claim Prize Ship for National players, and Scavenge for pirates) while targeting an abandoned enemy ship. The commendation type mostly depends on the level of the opponent(s), though there is some randomness involved (for example, Royal Commendations can be looted from enemies that are around level 45 and higher, though not always).

Commendations can be traded in for various rewards in the Nation's capital city, or sold to other players. They are very valuable, because they can be used to purchase skill re-specialization. Most of the rewards are the same for all careers, but some are exclusive to certain career types

Royal Commendations are required in obtaining writs, and they fetch the highest profit of any commendations when sold in Capital City Auction-houses.

Selling Commendations in your nation's Capital City will yield the greatest profit potential.

Commendations of Honor are best exchanged for Gold Ingots, as the current exchange is in 2020. At a 15 for 15 exchange rate.

Commendations of Skill are best exchanged for Silver Ingots, as the current exchange is in 2020. At a 15 for 15 exchange rate

Naval Officers turn in commendations at their Naval Headquarters. Freetraders turn them in at their Tradehouse.

Privateers can trade them in at their respective Privateer Establishment:
