Angling, or fishing, was introduced with the Power & Prestige expansion. Angling allows players to catch and sell various types of fish which may in turn be exchanged for special consumables. Fishing gear along with the consumable rewards are available from the Fishmonger who can be found on the docks of every port.

Previously, the Fishmonger offered several valuable ship fittings. These may now be found on the Pieces of Eight exchange available at the Euro Trader.

Angling Gear[]

There are three necessary pieces of angling gear: rods, lures, and bait. Basic gear may be purchased from any Fishmonger. Better gear along with specialized baits and lures are available in the angling section of Treasure Aisle. The premium rods increase the percentage of casts that result in a fish catch while the specialized baits and lures greatly increase your chance of catching specific types of fish.

All types of rods are permanent pieces of gear. However, they may not be traded between characters. Bait and lures are a type of consumable and will be used up over time. After equipping a piece of tackle, a buff timer will appear showing the player how much time remains before the tackle expires. Additionally, tackle has a percentage chance of being lost with every cast.

Fish[]

Fish come in four types: common, uncommon, exceptional, and trophy fish. These fish are divided up among the nine regions of the Caribbean with the exception of common and uncommon fish which may be found everywhere. Generally, each fish species has a preference for either baits or lures. Exceptional fish have even more specific tastes for certain baits and lures found in Treasure Aisle.

Unlike gear, fish are a tradeable commodity.

Trophy Fish[]

There are nine trophy fish corresponding to the nine Caribbean region. The trophy fish are not listed by default in the Fishmonger's exchange and must be in your possession before he will offer a reward. It is believed that trophy fish have no preference between bait and lures, but that they are caught on regional Treasure Aisle tackle at approximatly 2x the rate of basic tackle. Trophy fish information is based on forum user Reverand Lovejoy's research. [1]
