General

A large Polacre that doesn't pack much punch, but has exceptional boarding capabilities. It also is very agile for it's size. Due to it's good OS speed, excellent polars and spacious cargo, it can also adapt well to fill a secondary role as fast, medium hauler with the proper OS speed fittings.

History

European navies were impressed by the Barbary Corsairs and their Xebecs which harried Mediterranean shipping unless bribes were paid. As a counter the "polacre," "poleacre" or "polacca" was created. This ship carries a hybrid mast system. It is similar to a Xebec, sharing the same hull design, but has a square-rigged main mast in place of the Xebec's lateen. Thus it retains the excellent close haul and beam reach sailing charateristics of the Xebec while still able to pursue ships sailing broad reach and running before the wind.

This ship was modelled by "Spankybus" Mignone after the French "La Mystique" of 1750.

Distinguishing Characteristics

A Xebec hull with a hybrid sail design utilizing both a lanteen rigged mast and a ship (or square) rigged mast. Some polacres had a lanteen foremast and ship rigged main and mizzen masts, others have the ship rig on the foremast and have a lanteen on the main mast.
