SAILING Sailing These parameters determine how your ship sails. Max Speed: Maximum Speed SHIPHow fast your ship can move in battles. Improving battle speed does not improve Open Sea speed. Acceleration: Acceleration Determines how fast the ship gains speed. Deceleration: Deceleration Determines how fast the ship loses speed. Lower values are better if you want to maintain speed, higher values are better if you want to stop quickly. Turning (Fast): Fast Turn Rate The Ship's turn rate in degrees per second. This is how fast the ship turns if it is moving at maximum speed. Turning (Slow): Slow Turn Rate The Ship's turn rate in degrees per second. This is how fast the ship turns if it is moving at a speed of at least 4 knots. Turning Accel: Max Turning Acceleration This shows how fast a ship accelerates into a turn. The higher the value, the faster the ship reaches its maximum turn rate. Turning Decel: Min Turning Deceleration Ships gradually suffer less deceleration as they turn. This shows a minimum amount of deceleration a ship has when turning. Lower numbers (relative to other acceleration stats) are better. Best Point: Best Point The wind angle at which the ship can attain its maximum speed. The wind comes from angle 0o, and angle 180o is running with the wind at your back. Capacity: Capacity How many units of cargo the ship can hold. O.S. Visibility: Open Sea Visibility How far away other ships will spot you on the open sea. O.S. Spotting: Open Sea Spotting Increases your spotting range, allowing you to detect ships beyond their O.S. Visibility. Crew: Crew The maximum number of crew on your ship. Shows the fighting strength of your crew. Target Tracking: Target Tracking Reduces the accuracy penalties you suffer due to your movement and your target's movement. Improves your chance to hit fast moving ships. |

50 ( Colossal) LEVEL (SIZE): Level and Size3 321535 The level required to use this ship, and the size of the hull. DURABILITY: Durability The number of ships you have left. A massive merchant ship repurposed for war. The Mastercraft Couronne was the pinnacle flagship for Freetraders. She has the guns equal to a 4th rate and armor to match. Her 8x 16 pound stern chasers are a unique feature to this ship.
History
La Couronne (French for "crown") was an emblematic ship of the French Navy built by Richelieu.
La Couronne was a war Galleon built by the French themselves in accordance to Richelieu's plans to renew the French Navy, after a series of ships built by the Dutch. The construction was supervised by Issac de Launay Razilly (who later assumed command of the ship)[1], and overseen by the famous carpenter Charles Morieur, from Dieppe. She was being constructed at Roache-Bernard, and was one of the most advanced units of her time. She bore 68 heavy guns, including 32 18-pounder long guns on the main deck and 24 9-pounder long guns on the upper deck. She also sported 8 guns firing to the bow and 8 to the aft, an unusual feature until Dupuy de Lôme redesigned naval artillery.
The Couronne took part in the siege of Hondarribia in 1638, and another expedition to Spain in 1639 under Henri de Sourdis.
Strategy and Use
Because of her colossal size and poor armament, she is outclassed by smaller ships like the San Fernando which can use the more effective huge fittings, and the Centurion which has sufficient gun poundage.
Prior to version 2.11.68.00, the Couronne MC used to have gun poundage similar to the Centurion and armor close to first rates which made it a capable lineship and a dream of all Freetraders to own.
The ship is however much cheaper to build than the Centurion and it puts out similar DPS due to its reload bonus.
Tactics
Slow acceleration and poor turning means that this ship, like other ships of the line, should be deployed in a close, well disciplined formation. Avoid falling out of formation as this leaves the galleon vulnerable to being demasted and then sunk.
This is the heaviest ship available to Freetraders only, her broadside being roughly equal to a fourth rate however the armor matches the Centurion, with much higher Mast DR as well. She will do very poorly in a heavy line fighting group in a Port Battle, and will be easily outmaneuvered in PvP battles or a brawl with frigates.
The reload focus of this ship means at 200y it puts out 28.5 DPS compared to 26.9 from the Centurion. However there is less spike potential.
