General
A powerful, but quick and maneuverable 34-gun frigate that can fill a role in any battle. It's biggest weakness is the lack of any chasers.
History
The Capricieux was the first large frigate of her kind in service to the French Crown. Her sole purpose and use was to be a line battle ship and to serve as merchant convoy escorts. The Capricieux was laid down in 1717 at the Arsenal of Brest. As of 1720, the Capricieux Class comprised 15 ships.
Strategy and Use
Heavy-hulled medium frigate for long-range combat combat and high durability. The Raa-line has more firepower at close range but thinner armour.
Variants
Other variants of the Capricieux:
- 'Capricieux' Courier Frigate
- 'Capricieux' Frigate (Civilian)
- 'Capricieux' Heavy Frigate
- 'Capricieux' Mastercraft Frigate
Sources
This model is based on a set of ship plans form Adm. Paris' "Souvenirs de Marine Conserves" with additional material from J. Bourdriot's "French Frigates". The model was built by Michael O'Dwyer.
